Research Projects
Joint research concerning political leadership is viewed as a core task of the Political-Leadership Branch of the Austrian Political Science Association.
The first joint scientific study started in after an extensive explorative preliminary stage in .
Our research focuses on questions regarding relations between leadership and quality of democracy.
Political Leadership in Austria. How Austrians see political Leadership generally and the leadership qualities of their political party leaders in particular. A quantitative study of political leadership conducted in cooperation with Gallup Austria.

Research method: quantitative online-survey among experts from science, media, economy/advocacy groups and civil society
Since the "Initiative Mehrheitswahlrecht - Demokratiebefund Austria" aggregates data and presents an annual report on Austrian democracy. In the Branch of Political Leadership was allowed to add some questions of their own to the online-questionnaire.

Study of Austrian Journalists on Political Leadership
Follow-up Project - focus on crisis and crisis-management
The Austrian Association of Political Science in cooperation with Pressclub Concordia repeats its online-survey on political leadership among Austrian journalists. The follow-up study shall provide comparable data, and in so far an insight into the recent developement concerning political leadership. Part of the survey especially focuses on political crisis-management.

a multi-level empirical study among Austrian journalists concerning political leadership
Research method: combination of qualitative interviews, focus groups and quantitative online-survey
In the project gained partial-funding by MA/7-Ciy of Vienna.
During fall the branch started focusing on research questions, research methodology and research design. During summer Regina M. Jankowitsch und Bettina Pepek conducted ten hour-long qualitative interviews with Austrian chief journalists. Those recorded interviews were analyzed by Iris Ullmann. In research design and first results were presented at the Day of Political Science in Graz.

During fall Kilian Franer and Jeanette Mueller moderated two focus groups. The groups took place at Instituts für Höhere Studien, Vienna, and were attended by five Austrian journalists each. Iris Ullmann was responsible for recording and evaluating the groups.
Finally, in fall , Austrian journalist participated in an online-survey (SoSci). The survey was made possible with the help of Pressclub Concordia.
The study was made public on at the Pressclub Concordia. The presentation of the results was followed by a panel discussion.
